On your council tax notice, it will be marked as a payment for the 'Police and Crime Commissioner', who is responsible for setting the budget for the police. You can find out more information about the police precept and your contribution towards local policing in our 'Our Policing Contribution' leaflet.
Public Consultation
Before the Commissioner decides on the precept level for South Wales, he is committed to ensuring that he consults with the public in order to understand their views ahead of making a decision.
On an annual basis we launch our police precept survey, which enables residents across South Wales to have the opportunity to tell us:
- how much more they would be prepared to pay towards their police precept
- their policing priorities
- their views and feedback on the service provided by South Wales Police
Our survey is made available online, via paper copy and Easy Read. The team also schedule a number of face-to-face sessions with communities to ensure we reach a wider audience.
The information and feedback gathered from the police precept consultation assists the Commissioner in his decision-making when setting the precept level for the year ahead. The Commissioner presents his precept proposals to the Police and Crime Panel and the consultation findings forms an important part of this discussion.
Our previous consultations and response summary reports are available below.
Please note that these consultations are now closed. Thank you to everyone that took part.
