Public Health Wales Data Analysis

Partnerships have been fostered with the three University Health Boards covering the South Wales Police area, this has ensured information is now being shared in relation to assaults which present to the Emergency Departments. This personalised data is cross referenced with data from Welsh Ambulance and Police to provide a baseline of violence across South Wales, identifying hot spots and contributory factors for violence which are not always reported to the police.

These reports are taken to the local Violence Prevention groups for discussion, in order to inform intervention and prevention activity and ensure that work undertaken can have its successes measured via multi agency data.

In January 2016 all personalised data sharing agreements were in place between Public Health Wales, South Wales Police, Welsh Ambulance Service Trust, Cardiff and Vale UHB, ABMU Health Board, and Cwm Taf UHB. The sharing of personalised data will enable further refinements to the data ensuring there is no double counting.

Early indications are that around 69% of violence across South Wales is not known to the police.
