Data Subject Access Request

Requesting your Personal Data held by the Police and Crime Commissioner of South Wales Section 7 of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA) gives an individual the right to request a copy of the information an organisation holds about them – this is referred to as the right of subject access. If you wish to obtain information held about you by the Police and Crime Commissioner, then you can submit a Subject Access Request asking for your personal data.

This request for disclosure will only cover data held by the Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales. It will not cover data held by South Wales Police, the Police National Computer or any other police system. If you require information that may be held by South Wales Police, such as your police record, or information relating to a specific incident in which you were involved, you will need to direct your Subject Access Request to South Wales Police by clicking here.

Under the right of subject access you are not entitled to information relating to other people.  Please note that all Subject Access Requests must be made in writing and sent via the post to the Police and Crime Commissioner of South Wales. We do not accept Subject Access Requests over the telephone or via email. This is because of the need for identity documents, and application form.

How to make a Subject Access Request

In order to submit a legitimate Subject Access Request to obtain your personal data from South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, please;

  • Complete the Application Form – Subject Access Request Form
  • Provide photocopies of your identification – proving your name, current address and date of birth
  • Return the application to the Police and Crime Commissioners office at the below address

Once a valid Subject Access Request has been received, the Police and Crime Commissioners office are under a legal obligation to respond to the applicant within 1 month.
